Cardiff Transition Show and Tell – Learning from Other Transition Groups
Thursday 17th February 2011 6-9pm
Dempsey’s (upstairs room)
15 Castle Street
Cardiff
CF10 1BS

What is it? Show and Tells are an opportunity for you to learn about Transition-related topics. The first Show and Tell of 2011 will be about learning from other local Transition groups. We will be welcoming a member of a Transition group from outside of Cardiff to chat to us about their experiences. It’s a friendly, informal event where you can enjoy a drink and a chat with fellow Transitioners. Everyone is welcome – you don’t have to have had anything to do with Transition before!

There will be the opportunity to make a small donation (£2) on the door to help us cover the cost of hiring the room.

For those of you on facebook – we now have a page and you can access info about this event here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/event.php?eid=185329491489419
It’s also on the CTP website too: http://cardifftransition.org.uk/whatson.php

New stuff: There is also a new group called CF Hub – is a real-life social network of groups and individuals involved in the environmental movement in Cardiff. It has a regular green drinks style meet up in the Milgi Yurt every month. Chat with them on Facebook at http://on.fb.me/cfhub or follow them on Twitter at http://twitter.com/cfhub

Feel free to circulate to your networks & hope to see you on the 17th!

Thanks

Paul Mobbs author of the new book ‘Energy Beyond Oil’, will present a
short lecture and discussion on the issue of our energy future:
* Why are fuel prices rising?
* How much energy do we use?
* What’s ‘peak oil’ and what does it mean for us?
* How much oil and gas is left?
* Can renewable energy make a difference?

Using the most recent statistics from national and international
organisations ‘Energy Beyond Oil’ explores the entire energy issue –
how it is used, how much there is, and how current trends make higher
energy prices/energy shortages inevitable. However, in the longer term
our use of fossil fuel-based energy sources must be curtailed. Even with
the use of renewable energy sources, this will require a significant
change in our lifestyle.

The presentation is roughly an hour long, and this will be followed by
an open discussion so that those attending can clarify any of the issues
raised. There will also be an opportunity to buy a copies of ‘Energy

The walk aims to raise awareness about the proposed wind farm to be sited near Cwmdare and running north to Hirwaun.

Those who take part in the walk will be able to see first-hand where some of the 400ft wind-turbines might be located and discuss their effects on the local environment.

David James, Chairman of Cynon Valley Ramblers has organised the event. He advises sturdy boots and estimates that the walk should last around two and a half hours. Hopefully the weather dries out for the day.
